A man who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two boys both nine and 10.
The accused was detained after eight minors and one adult became sick at the facility in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.
Ruben played a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the man had played this game with the children "over an extended period", and minors had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.
She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in recently.
The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepson had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.
"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated items including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his worries.
She stated the defendant continued to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The legal representative stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities a second time.
She said the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
